Stereochemistry of decarboxylation of trans-4-hydroxycinnamic acid by Aerobacter.
The stereochemistry of the decarboxylation of trans-p-coumaric acid to 4-hydroxystyrene by Aerobacter aerogenes has been examined. The decarboxylation has been found to proceed with retention of the geometry about the trans-substituted double-bond.
Enzyme reactions with phenolic compounds: formation of hydroxystyrenes through the decarboxylation of 4-hydroxycinnamic acids by Aerobacter.
A constitutive enzyme present in strains of Aerobacter has been found to decarboqdate phenylacrylic (cinnamic) acids possessing a 4-hydroxy group to the corresponding hydroxystyrenes nonoxidatively. Two such products, 4-hydroxystyrene (4-vinylphenol) and 3 ,Cdihydroxystyrene (4-vinylcatechol) from p-coumaric and caffeic acids, respectively, were purified and identified. Only 4-hydroxystyrene ha...

Enzymatic Decarboxylation of Oxalic Acid* by William
Although it has been recognized that oxalic acid is decomposed by a variety of microorganisms (2-6), relatively little is known of the details of oxalic acid metabolism. The present study represents an attempt to establish the mechanism of oxalate degradation at the enzyme level by the use of a bacterium isolated from soil. Partially purified enzyme preparations obtained from the organism catal...
